Yard Sale

We hold an annual yard sale the first weekend of May every year. The yard sale is conducted on a very large scale and is very profitable for our Pack, Troop, and Team.

We use washing machine boxes donated from a local appliance store and place them in the apartment building laundry rooms around the local university. We empty the boxes twice a week, and have Scout parents help with the sorting. Items are priced cheaply, 25 cents a shirt, etc. We hold the yard sale on Friday and Saturday, and hold some of the materials back so we can replenish the selection overnight on Friday. We typically raise $4,000 to $5,000 each year. We have been doing this same fundraiser for about 10 years, so it is well-known in our town of 50,000. We put notices in the paper and on local radio stations. We started out making about $1,000 to $1,500, but it quickly grew to where it is now.
