Herman the Worm Song

Lyrics

Sittin' on a fence post, chewing my bubble gum,
playing with my yo-yo (woo, woo)
When along came "Herman the Worm" and he was this big!
And I said, "Herman, Baaaaaby! What's happening?"
And he said, "I ate my bradda."

Sittin' on a fence post, chewing my bubble gum,
playing with my yo-yo (woo, woo)
When along came "Herman the Worm" and he was this big!
And I said, "Herman, Baaaaaby! What's happening?"
And he said, "I ate my sista."

Sittin' on a fence post, chewing my bubble gum
playing with my yo-yo (woo, woo)
When along came "Herman the Worm" and he was this big!
And I said, "Herman, Baaaaaby! What's happening?"
And he said, "I ate my mudder."

Sittin' on a fence post, chewing my bubble gum
playing with my yo-yo (woo, woo)
When along came "Herman the Worm" and he was this big!
And I said, "Herman, Baaaaaby! What's happening?"
And he said, "I ate my fadda."

Sittin' on a fence post, chewing my bubble gum
playing with my yo-yo (woo, woo)
When along came "Herman the Worm" and he was this big!
And I said, "Herman, Baaaaaby! What's happened?"
And he said, "I BURPED!!!"

Action

First off, "Herman" talks with a Brooklyn accent, do it up real good!

Stand like you're up against a fence, chew "bubble gum" and throw a "yo-yo" up and down.

When you say, "...along came "Herman the Worm" you can make a "worm" gesture with your fore finger like a worm crawling along.

When you say, "...he was this big!" put your hands in front of you about 5" apart the first time and then each time thereafter put your hands farther and farther apart so when "Herman" says he ate his fadda (father) your hands should've been as far apart as you can get them!

When you get to the last stanza, you just use your thumb and fore finger to indicate "Herman's" size!

CommentYou can use props with this! Can make song longer by having Herman "eat" more relatives! You can also use any type of "puppet" for "Herman" with each successive puppet being bigger than the last and with the last "Herman" being very small... so small that you don't need a puppet but just act like he's in your cupped hands and you talk to "Herman" in your hand.

You can have the audience participate with the bubble gum and yo-yo actions (follow along with your actions)

Great song that I learned from S. Federspiel, Linwood, MI... Pack 3131 and the Pickle Troop 131
