1 Loaf of pre sliced bread (french works best)
3 12oz cans of sliced peaches
1 dozen eggs
1 pound of brown sugar
1 1/2 sticks of butter
Can Opener (if needed for peaches)
Take your pound of brown sugar and 1 1/2 sticks of butter and put them in the dutch oven over your cooking coals. You will need to stir this mixture every now and then. While that is cooking take your dozen eggs and put them in your bowl. Add your milk and cinnamon and whisk eggs until scrammbled. As your brown sugar and butter gets to a liquid state, pour your 3 cans of (drained) peaches into the dutch oven. Once you put the peaches into the oven stir the mixture up coating the peaches. Take your pre sliced bread and dip into eggs and then place in dutch oven. Work your way around the outside of oven and then the inside until you reach the top of oven. If you have any remaining egg left over pour over top layer of bread. Place lid on oven and put coals on top. Cook for 45 - 60 mins depending on your cooking fire. At 45 mins check you will know when its finished when the top layer is crunchy and golden brown. Feeds 6-8 Adults, 8-10 Kids.
CommentI can not take credit for this recipe. I found it on a web site when I first started dutch oven cooking and have never seen it again. This was a hit with our Troop for 5 years and is now a hit with our Venture Crew. I always know on camping trips that I am cooking breakfast for the adults and even the kids have started making this as well. There is never any left over and no need for syrup because of the brown sugar/peach mixture on the bottom. I hope every enjoys this as much as we have for the last 6 years.
