Service Project Description
James Ashenhurst, Life Scout of Troop 401- Oberlin, Ohio built circular containers that were placed into the downtown area for patrons to deposit recyclable materials into. The city of Oberlin runs its own recycling program and this project was useful in that it provided centralized collection areas for the materials that would otherwise have been thrown into refuse containers. The project consisted of soliciting donations from the local lumber supply company and then organizing the Scouts and adult help from the Troop to cut, stain, assemble, label and place the containers into the downtown cityscape. James was recognized at a City Council meeting for his forward thinking project as the containers were officially accepted. James Ashenhurst was presented his Eagle on December 1, 2001 by Scoutmaster Tim Weaver in front of family, friends and his Scouting brotherhood.
