Marc P. Vallin, 17, a member of Boy Scout Troop 371, recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He is the son of Tony and Liz Vallin and is a senior at St. Petersburg Catholic High School. Marc began his scouting career in 1990 when he was a Cub Scout with Pack 457. As a cub scout, Marc earned the Webelos rank and the Arrow of Light Award. After joining Troop 371 in 1996, Marc held several positions, including senior patrol leader, quartermaster, and troop guide. Marc participated in a variety of scouting events, including this years Boy Scout National Jamboree at Fort AP Hill, Virginia where he held the position of assistant patrol leader. He also earned the Fifty-Miler award on a cross-country trip to Charles L. Sommers canoe base in Ely Minnesota by hiking and canoeing over 60 miles in 6 days. Marc is a BSA certified lifeguard and has earned both the BSA mile swim and snorkeling awards. Marc is a member of the Order of the Arrow. For his Eagle rank, Marc completed 42 merit badges. For his project, he planned and managed the laying of a brick patio in front of an old school house that is being restored at Heritage Village and Historical Museum in Largo. The schoolhouse was the first built for African-American children in Tarpon Springs. Marc credits his achievement to the many leaders who have helped him throughout his scouting career.
