Mailbox Alert Program

Mailbox Alert Program

I pitched this idea to the local post office and local police and got their help to work with me. I recruited about 12 scouts to help. We went door to door and explained the program to all the elderly people in the community (over 500 people, names and addresses provided by the post office). The idea is that if they agree to participate, we place a sticker on the inside of their mailbox door. If the mailman notices mail accumulating more than 2 days, and there was no hold-mail reported, they will call the police to check on the person. We printed our own stickers, got approval from those who wanted to participate, and placed stickers on the inside of the mailboxes. We also provided the list of participants back to the post office and to the police station.
