Ken King has service as a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Explorer in the Mid America Council. He earned the Eagle Scout Award with silver palm and was recognized as a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow while a member of Troop 1, Council Bluffs, Iowa. As a youth member of the scouting movement, he served as an Order of the Arrow chapter chief, lodge vice chief, and vigil chairman for Kit-Ke-Hak-O-Kut Lodge, #97. During his tenure in the Mid America Council, he served on camp staff at Wakonda, Eagle, and Cedars for eight summers as a scoutcraft instructor, scoutcraft director, and camp commissioner. King also served on camp staff in Long's Peak Council (commissioner and program director), Mid Iowa Council (program director), Two Rivers Council (camp director), and Three Fires Council (camp director). In total, he has 20 summers of camp staff experience, including one as an international camp staff member with the Scout Association of Ireland. He has served as an advisor for a high adventure expedition at Charles Sommers Canoe Base and served on the staffs of the 1993 and 2005 National Scout Jamborees. In the area of training, he has worked on the staff of National Camping School for fourteen sessions (camp commissioner, program director, and camp management), and with the National Youth Leadership Instructor Camp at Philmont Scout Ranch, where he has served as a Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster. He has served as a staff member for Philmont's NAYLE leadership development experience. He has also participated in Wood Badge training and served as the course director for Wood Badge Course C-09-01. He has participated in Venturing Leader Powderhorn training, in support of higher adventure programming for youth. He has delivered a variety of training programs supporting Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders, as well as supporting district and council level training programs. King has served previously as the Council Camping Chairman, Council Activities Chairman, District Camping Chairman, District Training Chairman, Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner, as a member of the Council Training Committee, as well as a member of the Executive Board for the Two Rivers and Three Fires Councils. He has also served as a unit-level scout leader, serving as an Assistant Cubmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Explorer Advisor, Venturing Crew Advisor, and a Rover Scout Leader. He is currently a den leader in the Three Fires Council of St. Charles, IL King holds the Silver Antelope Award, the Silver Beaver Award, the District Award of Merit, the Scouter's Training Award, the Scouter's Key Award, the Cub Scouter Award, the Den Leader Award, the James E. West Fellowship, and the Commissioner's Arrowhead Honor. Professionally, he is a professor of science education.
