Honoring the Troops in Iraq
Chas Helge of Troop 167 in Manistee, MI wanted to find a way to honor the local Army National Guard unit that was deployed to Iraq as his Eagle Scout project. Chas organized and produced a two hour variety show at the local high school auditorium that honored the troops with singing, instrumentals, dance, and poetry readings. Over 300 people attended the show and contributed to the cause. Money raised at the show was used to purchase material for goody bags that were assembled by Chas and his volunteers and sent to the local soldiers in Iraq. Chas also solicited elementary school students to write letters that were included in the goody bags.
