CommentWe have moved a lot and seen cars built in many a pinewood derby. Here is my husband and boys do it.
The boys sketch their designs on the pinewood derby block, and Dad cuts out the basic shape on the band saw (you can also use a scroll saw or have the boys do it themselves with a coping saw.)
Dad gives advice, but the sanding and shaping is then up to the boys.
While the boys do that, Dad takes the axles and wheels and polishes them. The boys also do their own paint jobs.
