CommentThis is a difficult one to do on a small Pinewood Derby car axle, put it can really help reduce wheel to axle friction.
File grooves into the axle to decrease the surface area contact between the axle and the tire. Make sure you don't weaken the axle by making the grooves too thin, and make sure there aren't any ridges left at the sides of each groove.
