Daniel Gicklhorn is the son of Linda and Martin Gicklhorn of Moraga. Daniel joined Troop 234 in 1999 and held leadership positions of increasing responsibility that included: Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader, and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He attended the Brownsea leadership program in 2001. While in Troop 234, Daniel participated in the Glen Aulin - Yosemite, Caribou Wilderness-Mt. Lassen, Mt. Whitney, and Philmont High Adventures. He attended summer camp at Camp Royaneh for three years and received the Camping Spirit Award for 75 nights of camping. Weekend outdoor outings included: Dillon Beach, Big Basin, Ohlone Wilderness, Emigrant Gap, Desolation Wilderness, Point Reyes, Ventana Wilderness, Mt. Rose, and snow camping. He completed Okpik training. Daniel hiked to all six peaks (Mt. St. Helena, Mt. Tamalpais, Mt. Wittenberg, Pinnacles, Mission Peak, and Mt. Diablo) of the Rim Rover progressive treks. Daniel earned 23 merit badges. For his Eagle Service Project, Daniel planned, coordinated, and led a group of Scouts who replaced a wooden fence that protects children from a concrete retaining wall at Temple Beth Abraham in Oakland, CA. He participated in Scouting for Food collections for four years.
